The MCA Store – A hidden gem for unique and artistic gifts, especially for the person that’s hard to buy for! 220 E. Chicago
Gene’s Sausage Shop – I know it’s officially summer when I can sit on the roof deck and have a brat and a beer in Lincoln Square. 4750 N. Lincoln
Komoda – My absolute favorite boutique full of local and hand selected gifts — everything from jewelry, books, bath goods and beautiful leather goods. Shop owner Sheri is a gem and curates her selection impeccably. 2559 W. Chicago
The Green Mill – You just have to go to this iconic historic jazz club. Get Vietnamese food on Argyle Street before you head over to listen to music or hear poetry. 4802 N. Broadway
Music Box Theater – I love seeing a movie here because it’s old school and the films are usually not widely distributed. 3733 N. Southport
Lula Cafe – Open all day almost every day, Lula is warm and friendly. Whether you want comforting cafe fare or inventive brunch and dinner experience, you’ll never get a better meal! 2537 N. Kedzie
Rosa’s Lounge – Fantastic blues lounge off the beaten path, that’s the authentic experience! 3420 W. Armitage
Peqoud’s – My favorite deep dish pizza. The one I recommend when non Chicagoans ask me where they should get deep dish. It’s all about the perfectly burnt cheese crust around the entire edge of the pizza. 2207 N. Clybourn
Ipsento Coffee – I’m in love with their Ipsento latte: coconut milk, honey and cinnamon and just the perfect pinch of heat with cayenne. I’m glad I don’t live within walking distance … otherwise I’d be there every day. 2035 N. Western
NPR Shows: “The Moth Radio Hour” and “Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!” record here often. I love going to one of these tapings!
