What Time is It? Wine o’ Clock!

With all that you deal with on a daily basis, sometimes you just need to unwind with a glass — or five — at one of these wine-tasting festivals in town.

MAY 2015 – How many times have you walked into a wine shop only to stare at the multitude of bottles not knowing which to pick? You inevitably either go with a label that speaks to you or maybe you’ll take the time to read the shelf notes written by the store’s staff. A little wine education wouldn’t hurt, right? Fortunately wine tasting events take place around the city and two great ones are coming up. Not that you need these to study — you can simply go, drink and have fun with friends. But next time you go to the wine shop, you might just recognize a label you liked. Check out these upcoming festivals:

WOW (West of West) Wine Festival
When: May 20 from 6-9 p.m.
Where: City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph, citywinery.com
What: More than two dozen fantastic Western Sonoma wineries — like Red Car, Peay, Failla, Littorai, Baker Lane, Hartford and DuMol — head to Chicago to pour some delicious reds, whites and rosés. More information: WOW Wine Festival
Cost: $85, tickets through City Winery.

Lincoln Park Wine Fest
When: May 30-31 from 1-7 p.m. each day
Where: Jonquil Park, 1001 W. Wrightwood Ave. (@ Sheffield and Lincoln)
What: An open-air market with wine and food tents featuring wineries from around the world pouring numerous varieties of wine. Live music and art.
Cost: $60 for general admission with 12 tastings and a commemorative glass; $95 for VIP admission with 17 tastings and the glass. $100 for a two-day pass. Buy tickets here.
