Some people just have that magical thing. Photographer Dan Kelleghan is one of those people. After studying photography at Columbia College, it didn’t take long for him to start building up a client base and a stellar reputation and now Kelleghan, who has a beautiful whitewashed studio in Pilsen, is one of Chicago’s most sought-after young shooters. He works with clients — including J.Crew, Warby Parker, Audi and Lacoste — to bring a sense of architecture, design and fashion to the creative process. Dan shared some of his favorite places around Chicago. Check those out and check out his beautiful work here.
CC Ferns— It’s a newer place I recently discovered in Humboldt Park with an eclectic interior, music that’s always on point and a great place to have a chat. I love to hole up here and get some work done; there’s always a place to sit! 2806 W. Augusta.
Parsons Chicken & Fish — I have a low-key obsession with Austin, Texas and this is the closest in Chicago I can get to being there. Its outdoor patio is the best in Chicago and their interior is super photographable (sorry, I’m a photographer!) The chicken and fish is delectable and the negroni slushies are TO DIE FOR. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! 2952 W. Armitage.
La Vaca Margarita Bar — I may spend all my money at this Pilsen taco joint. They have insanely delicious tacos, perfectly refreshing margaritas and it’s close to my studio, which makes for a dangerous combination. The staff is always friendly, too. Go on a Tuesday when all the tacos are $2! 1160 W. 18th.
High Five Ramen— I think that this is the place I tell people to go the most. I literally can’t say enough good things about High Five. The ramen is the best I’ve ever had: juicy, spicy and paired with tasty sake! The wait (2 hours normally) makes planning ahead a must. When you take the first slurp of the ramen though, you know the time spent waiting was well worth it. Better yet, grab a few drinks nearby while you’re waiting. They’ll text you when your seats are ready. 112 N. Green.
Daniel Kelleghan Studio — A list of my favorite spots wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the place where I spend most of my time: my studio! Located in Pilsen, it’s the perfect blend of natural light, minimal interior design and functional photography studio. It’s also a great spot for entertaining. I’ve had parties with DJs, live acoustic shows, dinner parties and so much more. I’ve got a great stereo (essential for me!), and a projector for an awesome movie theater experience and photo shoot experimentation. It’s been my precious project since last August. I’ve put so much time and sweat making this place what it is today and I’m very proud of it!
