MAY 2017 – While many people love their birthday and fully enjoy all the attention that comes with it, others like to quietly let their birthday come and go, likening it to just another day. Chicago Athletic Association hotel general manager — and our resident monthly mixtape DJ — normally falls into the latter category. But this year, as he takes aim at the Big 5-0, he decided to rustle up some friends and head south to the ATL. We’ll let him go into more detail below, but before we hand over the mic, we want to wish our head honcho and top banana a truly happy, glorious birthday. It’s not every day you get to turn 50 and with Patrick being the spectacular guy he is, we couldn’t think of letting this day go by without sending him out some serious shouts of love. Happy birthday Patrick — may this be your best year yet!
“I’m not the kind of guy that makes a big deal about my birthday. Nothing about getting old or anything, it’s just another day for me and I’d prefer not to draw attention to myself (even leave it off my Facebook profile.) It’s just the way I’m wired. Well this year, my 50th on the planet, I’m breaking from tradition and throwing myself a birthday weekend with LCD Soundsystem and a collection of festival friends and family. When I learned that LCD Soundsystem (my live music addiction) was headlining Shaky Knees Music Festival in Atlanta the week of my birthday, I shot a note to a few buddies to see if any would join me. I got a bunch of enthusiastic “YAAASSS!!” responses and started planning the weekend. Coincidentally, the rest of the line up happens to be right up my alley, so we’re in for a fun-filled weekend. While I’ve been making mixtapes since the double cassette jam box era, my current run started with Lollapalooza previews on CD for my friends, so I decided to make a Shaky Knees mixtape for you. Enjoy and if you ever get the opportunity to see LCD live. DO IT. #seriously.”
