Here are 10 things you want to do in Chicago in October 2018


OCTOBER 2018 – Whether you love seeing the leaves change color or can’t wait to dress up for Halloween, there’s no doubt October — and taking a deeper dive into autumn — gets Chicagoans excited. This month, plenty of fantastic cultural events will happen all over the city, so let’s get into it.

Gilded Age Lakehouse Dinner at Cindy’s
What: Celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Chicago Athletic Association and the Art Institute’s 1893 openings with this seated, ticketed dinner between the Cindy’s crew and chef Carolina Diaz from the Art Institute’s Terzo Piano. What’s on the menu? The five-course dinner highlights Gilded Age-inspired dishes such as Consomme Royale, Sole Almondine, Beef Wellington, and for dessert, Chocolate Brownie.

When: Oct. 10 starting at 6 p.m. with canapes and welcome Champagne.

Oktoberfest in Game Room
What: 
Every weekend from September 21-October 28, Game Room will feature an Oktoberfest brew from some of their favorite local brewery, while supplies last. Put on your best lederhosen & join in for some good beer & good times!

Underworld’s Fair Halloween Party
What:
Chicago has fallen into chaos and a world of dystopia. Seek shelter inside the confines of the Chicago Athletic Association hotel to dance and party away your woes as acid house originator DJ Pierre spins iconc beats all night long.

Shaw’s 30th Anniversary “Pearl” Oyster Fest
What:
If you love oysters, crab, shrimp and all things shellfish, you must swing by this iconic restaurant for its nine-day seafood extravaganza for slurp-off competitions, oyster happy hours and more.

After Dark at the Modern Wing
What:
This party, now put on by the Evening Associates, has been happening for the better part of a decade so if you have never been, come out to hear live DJs, eat, drink and, of course, check out amazing art. During this installation, experience Hairy Who? 1966-1969, an exhibition dedicated to six Chicago artists.

Tootsie the Musical
What: Check out the pre-Broadway world premiere of this new musical based on the ‘80s movie that starred Dustin Hoffman as a struggling actor who poses as a woman to get ahead.

Open House Chicago
What:
For lovers of Chicago architecture, this is a not-to-miss weekend where you can go behind the scenes at 250 spaces all over the city for an inside look at often-closed doors.

Cognac Classic Crawl
What: Cognac is one of the world’s most-refined wine-based spirits. Go on a self-guided tour at five Chicago bars — Broken Shaker, Drumbar, Good Measure, Sportsman’s Club and Vol. 39 — to experience a special Cognac cocktail at each.

Chicago International Film Festival
What:
The 54th annual film festival brings independent and blockbuster movies to Chicago theaters from around the globe.

Chicago Ideas Week
What: What happens when creative minds in tech, the arts, politics, science and more descend upon Chicago? Conversations occur, people get enlightened and change, hopefully, happens. Welcome to Chicago Ideas Week.

Far & Away Beer Festival
What:
Half Acre, one of Chicago’s most-respected craft breweries, hosts this gathering of some of the country’s most-prized brewers — Bagby Beer, Monkish, Mikkeller and many more — in one spot where you can taste a range of beers, some generally not found in Chicago.
