Last month, we teased out a bit of what’s coming to Millennium Park’s Prtizker Pavilion this summer. At the time, Downtown Sound, the Monday night music series, hadn’t been announced. But when the city released the details, they surprised by adding Thursdays to the mix, basically doubling the amount of free rock, indie, world and electronic music in Millennium Park. Peep the full schedule here, and read more about a few shows we’re pretty excited about:
San Fermin: Led by classically trained musician Ellis Ludwig-Leone, this eight-piece Brooklyn outfit commands with horns, synths, guitars, violins and drums to the point the Village Voice recently called them the new Arcade Fire. Sō Percussion opens. June 1 @ 6:30 p.m.
The Very Best: A lovely blend of electronic beats by London’s Johan Hugo and the vocals of Malawi’s Esau Mwamwaya. Get ready to smile and dance! June 4 @ 6:30 p.m.
Andrew Belle: With a new EP and notoriety gained from his songs featured on Grey’s Anatomy, this Chicago-based singer-songwriter will offer up a gorgeous night of music under the stars. June 8 @ 6:30 p.m.
Active Child: Get lulled into romance through the beautiful falsetto vocals of multi-instrumentalist Active Child a.k.a. Patrick Grossi. Keep your fingers crossed Ellie Goulding will show up to sing their stunning, hypnotic duet “Silhouette.” (But let’s be real here…) June 22 @ 6:30 p.m.
Antibalas: This 12-piece Brooklyn orchestra brings their lively Afrobeat sounds to Millennium Park — this is one show you definitely don’t want to miss. July 2 @ 6:30 p.m.
