Do you love the holidays? Does seeing kids faces light up watching a grand parade melt your heart? Then you need to make sure you hit the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. Taking place November 21st, the festival, also known around town as the Lighting of the Avenue (as in Michigan), the very family-friendly affair draws hundreds of thousands of people to Michigan Avenue to officially kick off Chicago’s holiday season.
Activities abound all day from face painting at Pioneer Court and concerts by the likes of Michelle Branch and Justin Roberts to great shopping and eating. But the ultimate event is the tree-lighting parade where Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse lead a bevy of floats, marching bands and helium-filled balloons down Michigan Avenue. That kicks off at 5:30 p.m. and ends at Wacker Drive at the Chicago River where a massive fireworks show will go off at 6:55. Get ready for a fun-filled day of family fun!
