FEBRUARY 2019 — Hailed by The Guardian as “the theatre capital of America,” Chicago is home to over 250 theater companies, 200 theatres, and a history of storefront plays and a culture of intimate improv. As the League of Chicago Theatres puts it, “rising from a city of innovators, risk-takers, and big hearts, Chicago theatre is a hotbed for exciting new work and hundreds of world premieres every year.” From musicals to comedy; from The Second City to Steppenwolf Theatre; in Chicago, theatre is for everyone.
This year, not only is Chicago’s rich theater scene being honored through the annual Chicago Theatre Week (Thursday, February 7 – Sunday, February 17) — presented by the League of Chicago Theatres in partnership with Choose Chicago — 2019 is in fact the Year of Chicago Theatre, a citywide, year-long focus on theater. In true Chicago fashion, a celebration like this is the first of its kind anywhere in the United States.
Just steps from Chicago’s famed downtown theatre districts housing institutions such as the Chicago Theatre, Oriential Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Cadillac Palace Theatre, and Auditorium Theatre, the Chicago Athletic Association hotel sets the stage for a perfect pre-show dinner, or post-show overnight stay. During Chicago Theatre Week in particular, the hotel’s beloved Cherry Circle Room offers show goers the chance to show their ticket stubs for a toast of bubbly when you sit down to dinner (and don’t forget to ask about their pre-theatre menus).
Stay the night at our downtown hotel after the big night out, and come home to early 20th-century-inspired craftsmanship and elegantly appointed hotel rooms to make your “dinner and a show” into entire weekend affair.
