DECEMBER 2017 – There are countless places to shop for holiday gifts — you could hit big-box stores, walk up and down Michigan Avenue for national finds, spend a few hours browsing Amazon or could hit a variety of great markets set up around the city and support all things local and crafty. These markets have a really nice mix of food, drinks, housewares, clothing, furniture and so much more. The people behind each market are fantastic curators and have sought out some really special makers. Here are just some of the places you can find more local items for special gift giving this year.
What: The annual Christkindlmarket brings a German village to Daley Plaza in the heart of the Loop. Go during the day or into the evening for Christmas ornaments, crafts, toys, cuckoo clocks, nutcrackers, sausages, beer and more.

Land & Sea’s Ye Olde Holiday Shoppe
What: The crew behind the Chicago Athletic Association hotel’s Cherry Circle Room and Game Room bring together nearly 30 vendors including Brown Brothers Tattoo, Hopewell Brewing and Diligent Knives while also offering eats and drinks from Parson’s Chicken & Fish.

When: Dec. 8 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
What: One of the best collections of local makers, Holidose brings together nearly 140 artisans — Justice of the Pies; Stock Mfg.; Rumi Spice — for your shopping pleasure.

When: Dec. 10.
Cost: $10 online/$12 at the door and 25 percent of each ticket benefits The Kitchen Community.
Sauced’s The Night Market Before Xmas
What: A gathering of 50-plus food, drink, art and retail vendors from all over Chicago including Katherine Anne Confections, Soothsayer Hot Sauce, Edgewater Candles and Gather Home + Lifestyle.
Where: Stagg Court and The Tank at Chicago Athletic Association hotel (12 S. Michigan)
When: Dec. 12 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Randolph Street’s Holiday Market
What: A one-stop shop for an array of furniture, toys, jewelry, clothing and more vintage, antique and modern pieces.
Where: Plumbers Hall (1340 W. Washington)

Cost: $8; students $5. Free for kids under 12
