Going “spiritfree” to start 2019

Imbibe in booze-free beverages this January and beyond at Cindy's & the Chicago Athletic Association hotel


JANUARY 2019 — While January is often touted as the one chance each year to commit to a booze-free month of detoxing, at Cindy’s, non-alcoholic options (known as “spiritfrees” in our books) are front and center year-round. Designed by Cindy’s Beverage Manager David Mor, these spiritfrees are crafted sans booze to be enjoyed by all.

Not only are spiritfrees a way to be mindful of guests looking to be more reduce their alcohol intake in the new year, the development of these beverages are an intentional approach to modern hospitality, according to Mor.

“At Cindy’s, we find that our guests enjoy savoring their cocktails regardless of alcohol-content,” says Mor. “It provides a myriad of options that are approachable, refreshing, and exciting.”

While Cindy’s is closed for a little refresh in January (reopening Friday, January 25 for lunch) in the height of “Dry January,” these spiritfrees are available at Cindy’s year-round cravings:

Embargo ($12): verjus blanc, black lime, mint, sparkling water; bright, refreshing & delicate
Balenciaga ($12): spiced clementine, pineapple, seedlip spice 94, lemon, ginger beer; rich, zangy & aromatic
Parallels ($12): seedlip grove 42, grapefruit, verjus rouge, cane sugar, fever-tree indian tonic; citric, fresh & vibrant
CB+T ($12): kyoto black cold brew, cinnamon, fever-tree indian tonic; revitalizing, delicate & bitter

For those looking to go booze-free and roll up their sleeves this month, Cindy’s Beverage Manager David Mor is holding a Spiritfree Workshop, focused on crafting spiritfrees. In attending this workshop, attendees get to utilize both common house ingredients and some that are much more esoteric, to create well-balanced and thoughtful drinks that can be enjoyed by all. The workshop is $30 per person and includes takeaways from Kyoto Black Cold Brew Coffee, Rare Tea Cellar, Seedlip and Fever-Tree. Buy your tickets here.
