NOVEMBER 2017 – With holiday planning around the corner, it’s important to remember to take care of yourself and feed your creative soul. There are always so many things to do around Chicago and it can be hard to not only find everything out there, but also frustrating to narrow down your options to fit in all that you can. Thankfully we sifted through what’s coming up in November and have pulled together our top picks, just for you.
Chicago Humanities Festival
What: Set around the theme of “belief,” this two week festival brings together thought leaders from a variety of industries, including science, the arts, technology, politics and more.
When: Through Nov. 12
Where: Venues around the city, including the Art Institute, Chicago Cultural Center, Venue SIX10 and the Chicago Athletic Association hotel.

Fried Chicken & Champagne Fest
What: A bunch of Chicago’s favorite chefs, including Parachute’s Beverly Kim, Acadia’s Ryan McCaskey and Leghorn Chicken’s Jared Van Camp, vie for the title of best fried chicken while you get to sample through them and sip bubbly. And you’re helping raise scholarship funds for in-need culinary students through the Kendall College Trust.
When: Nov. 4 from 11:30 am to 3 p.m.
Where: Kendall College Skyline Room, 900 N. Branch (Goose Island)

What: Brooklyn’s dance-rock outfit reunited and will blow the roof off the Aragon for three nights.
When: Nov. 6-8

What: One of Steppenwolf’s most buzzed-about shows in a while, the Rembrandt, written by rising playwright Jessica Dickey and featuring ensemble member John Mahoney, centers around a museum guard’s journey through the ages after he decides to touch a famous painting by the Dutch artist.

A Christmas Carol
What: The classic Christmas story of Ebenezer Scrooge returns to the stage for its 40th anniversary.
When: Nov. 18 – Dec. 31

Selling Design: 27 Chicago Designers, 1936–1991
What: An exhibition highlighting the work of the 27 Chicago Designers group, which formed in 1936 typographers, illustrators, photographers, and designers.
When: Weekdays through Nov. 20
Where: Art Institute of Chicago
Cost: Included in the museum’s general admission.
Magnificent Mile Lights Festival
What: Come watch as Michigan Avenue gets lit up to kick off the holiday season with a parade with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse leading floats and performers down the Mag Mile.
When: Nov. 17-18
Where: Michigan Avenue for the parade and Pioneer Court for the festival
What: The 9th annual Chicago International Movies and Music Festival screens 50+ music-centric movies while live performances and panel discussions take place throughout the weekend.
