Every month, the Chicago Loop Alliance teams with a group of creatives to transform otherwise grungy alleyways into talked-about spectacles for Activate. The program kicked off in September of 2013 and has continued to wow attendees each month. On July 30th, head to Couch Place (at 171 N. Dearborn) as this session’s curators Thēarē Group turns the alley into a live event with music, performances and art.
Attendees to the free pop-up event will experience live hip-hop, house music and art and also get a chance to see a sneak peek of the documentary Midway: The Story of Chicago Hip-Hop as well as performances that tie in with a current exhibit at the Chicago Cultural Center on the evolution of Chicago house music. Some participating artists include CZR PRZ, Natasha Kohli, Rahmaan Statik, Chadwick Anderson, Pretty Black Girl and Denmark Vessey.
RSVP in advance here, and get a drink ticket for a free beer from Blue Moon. Then stick around and hit some places in the Loop to eat, drink and shop like Merz Apothecary, Block 37 and, of course, Chicago Athletic Association, which is just down the street.
