If you’ve always fancied yourself the outdoors type, but have never actually been able to pull it together to pack up a tent and gear and head out to the woods in Northern Wisconsin, now you have a chance to show you can really rough it. Sort of. On Friday Aug. 5, the Chicago Parks Foundation will host Camp Northerly, an urban camping experience that serves as a fundraiser for the city’s parks.
This adults-only event starts at 5 p.m. and when you check in, you’ll get your tent location (you can bring your own or pay a little more to get one from CPF) and start the fun. Activities include after-dark LED bocce, twilight hikes, a live fireside concert by Waxahatchee and sunrise yoga. There’s a barbecue by Chop Shop, a Goose Island bar, a Clif Bar s’mores station and hot breakfast with Dark Matter coffee. Don’t worry that you’ll have to brave the elements too long — the whole thing wraps up at 10 a.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $165 (bring your own tent) or $185 (supplied tent). If you want to experience the nighttime fun, but can’t stay overnight, you can still attend for $95.
