That Ferris Wheel in Lincoln Park

Watch a video of the 1893 Ferris Wheel

Most people likely don’t know that the Ferris Wheel debuted in Chicago during the 1893 World’s Fair, but plenty of people ever since have certainly ridden on one. Chicago recently replaced its Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier for an ever-larger one that is making its debut this spring.

Ahead of that, we thought it would be cool to show you what the original Ferris Wheel looked like in action after it was moved from the World’s Fair site on the South Side to the intersection of Clark and Wrightwood in Lincoln Park. We’ve talked about it being there before, but now we have a video, courtesy of Calumet412.com.

The famed Lumiere Brothers, Auguste and Louis, who were the world’s first filmmakers, shot the footage. Pretty cool to think it was located right where you can now get harassed at the Wieners Circle!
