Do the Derby With Us!

Watch the fastest 2 minutes in sports at the hotel

MAY 2018 – Is there any more exciting moment in sports than the Kentucky Derby? Something people plan for, talk about and get excited about for months lasts all of about … two minutes?! Yup, while it’s truly one of the most-hyped, shortest-lived sports events, do you want to be the person who says they missed it because they were getting a fresh mint julep at the bar?

This May 5 at the Chicago Athletic Association hotel, one of Chicago’s premier hotels near Millennium Park, we will be taking our 144th annual Kentucky Derby very seriously — and you should, too. We have a few options to make your Derby all the more fun and special. Join us between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Game Room for a Derby Day party sponsored in part with our friends at Maker’s Mark. Enjoy mint julep specials, stick horse racing on the bocce court, dancing to Southern hip hop by DJ Andre Rene and posing for selfies in front of the living mint wall. A second bar, hosted by Cherry Circle Room, will offer house barrel juleps so your glass will never be empty.

Down in Stagg Court, we’re hosting a Kentucky Roller Derby so you can watch the race on wheels! We’ll hold two sessions (4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and then from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and you can watch the race live in the first session and revisit all the magic during the second. Want to ride your own horse on wheels? Purchase a limited-availability inflatable horse on a stick to make your experience all the more whimsical. Purchase $20 tickets for either or both session in advance and rent skates for $5 if you don’t have your own. And yes, nibbles and drinks will be available for purchase. Grandiose hats are absolutely encouraged.
