If Chicago Got the Olympics

What if Chicago actually got the 2016 Olympics?

With all the negative talk surrounding the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro — between political scandals, Zika virus, unfinished buildings and high crime — what if Chicago had actually won the Olympic bid? Sure, we have crime and the city and state are pretty broke, but imagine if the city had landed the global sporting event?

DNAinfo Chicago envisioned how the city’s landscape would have changed had the Olympics had come to the Windy City — and it’s pretty cool. The staff at the online news outlet went through old renderings to create an interactive plan of what it could have looked like with a glass village to house athletes in Bronzeville to a kayak center on Northerly island and a BMX course in Douglas Park. Who knows if Chicago would have been ready, but it’s pretty amazing to think of what could have been.
