Tourist Guide to Chicago from 1888

A tourist guide of what to avoid in Chicago, 1888

With all the travel guides, articles and lists you can read to know what to do when visiting Chicago, have you ever thought about what to avoid? In 1888, a tourist guide to Chicago listed a number of things to watch out for to remain safe when visiting the big city. Things like “keep sober” and “avoid crowds.” But it also said to take care not to “talk loud, dress loud nor act loud” and to not “let strangers talk to you.” Interestingly, it also reminds people, “Don’t tip the waiter.” Check out the two images above to see the full list, which came to us from our friends at Calumet412.com.
